Very briefly if I explain Dr. Faustus is a tragedy, I would say, as tragedy is the downfall of a great, uncommon person, with some extra talent, by the sheer misfortune or fate. So here Faustus is an ultra talented person but due to his ambition of equalling the god, 'a sound magician is a mighty god', he suffers. Tragedy is the unnoticed and heavy degradation of fortunes. There are some critical aspects which approve certain literary work whether its a tragedy or any other genre. A tragedy must be the story of any uncommon man. Faustus is very extraordinary as a learner. The sufferer remains unaware of his deeds which led him to the tragic end. Here he does not think even for a while that what would be happen at the end of his contract with Mephistophilis.
